Cozy Christmas Plaids for Quilting and Sewing

Primo Plaids Flannel Holiday Cheer combines familiar Christmas colors with the inviting softness of flannel. Its red, green, and multicolor designs include different plaid arrangements, giving you options for mixing checks, crossing lines, and contrasting colors within one project.

Use these festive plaids together for a coordinated Christmas quilt, or select a few favorites for pillows and smaller gifts. Their classic patterns also suit winter decorating beyond the holidays.

Make a Holiday Cheer Flannel Rag Quilt

A rag quilt is a wonderful way to showcase plaid flannel. Simple squares let the patterns remain visible, while exposed, clipped seam allowances create the characteristic soft, fringed finish.

Choose the Four-Patch Flannel Rag Quilt Pattern for a pieced arrangement, or explore the Half-Square Triangle Flannel Rag Quilt Pattern for another way to combine your fabrics.

For guidance through the process, watch our Four-Patch Flannel Rag Quilt video tutorial or Half-Square Triangle Flannel Rag Quilt video tutorial.

Helpful Tools for Rag Quilt Projects

The Creative Grids Batting Buddy Template Set helps prepare pieces for compatible rag quilt projects. Follow the pattern and tool instructions for the appropriate fabric and batting sizes.

When it’s time to clip the exposed seam allowances, Fiskars Easy Action Rag Quilt Snips are designed for the repeated snipping involved in creating a rag quilt’s fringed edges.

Christmas Quilts, Pillows, and Handmade Gifts

Holiday Cheer plaids offer plenty of possibilities beyond rag quilts. Combine contrasting red and green fabrics in patchwork blocks, use a favorite plaid for a pillow front, or introduce flannel into a seasonal project whose instructions accommodate it.

Explore Christmas quilt and sewing patterns, quilt patterns and books, and table runner patterns for project ideas. Check the recommended fabric type and construction method before substituting flannel.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Primo Plaids Flannel Holiday Cheer?

Holiday Cheer is a Primo Plaids flannel collection by Marcus Fabrics featuring red, green, and multicolor plaid designs for quilting and sewing.

Is Holiday Cheer suitable for rag quilts?

Yes. Its plaid designs and cozy flannel texture make it a lovely choice for rag quilts. Follow your chosen pattern’s instructions for fabric preparation, batting, seam allowances, and clipping.

Is this collection only for Christmas projects?

No. Its red and green palette is especially suited to Christmas, but the classic plaids can also be used for winter throws, pillows, and everyday projects.

Can I mix different Holiday Cheer plaids in one quilt?

Yes. Combine different plaid scales and colors to give your quilt variety. Contrast between the selected fabrics helps individual blocks remain visible.

Should I prewash flannel before sewing?

Follow the fabric care instructions and your pattern’s guidance. Cotton flannel can shrink, so account for fabric preparation when planning yardage. If prewashing, prepare coordinating fabrics consistently.

Where can I learn to make a flannel rag quilt?

Watch our rag quilt video tutorial with the Batting Buddy for guidance on making a cozy rag quilt.

What tools are helpful for making a rag quilt?

The Creative Grids Batting Buddy Template Set is useful for compatible projects, and Fiskars Easy Action Rag Quilt Snips help clip exposed seam allowances. Check your pattern for its complete supply list.
