Where Can I Find Quilt Kits by Project Type?

Sometimes you know you want to make something—you just haven't decided which design yet.

That's where shopping Quilt Kits by Type becomes especially helpful.

Instead of beginning with a particular holiday or theme, you can start with what you want to make or the technique you want to use.

Looking for a full quilt? Start with quilt or patchwork kits. Want a smaller weekend project? Explore table runners, wall hangings, pillows, placemats, hot pads, bowl cozies, bags, and other small project kits. Love handwork? Browse cross stitch, hand embroidery, punch needle, and wool. Want to learn or enjoy a particular quilting technique? Explore appliqué, precision laser-cut appliqué, foundation paper piecing, or Quilt As You Go.

Shabby Fabrics brings all of these creative formats together so you can find a project that matches your interests, available time, skill level, and the kind of making you enjoy most.

Quilt Kits

Sometimes you simply want to make a quilt.

Shabby Fabrics offers quilt kits in a wide variety of sizes, styles, techniques, and skill levels, with coordinated fabrics selected to work beautifully with the design.

Depending on the project, kits may include the pattern, fabrics for the quilt top, binding, appliqué components, foundations, embellishments, or other project-specific materials.

For the complete assortment, browse All Quilt Kits.

If you're more interested in the subject or season than the construction method, browse Quilt Kits by Theme.

Patchwork Quilt Kits

For makers who love cutting, piecing, pressing, and watching individual blocks come together into a finished quilt, Patchwork Quilt Kits are a natural place to begin.

A thoughtfully coordinated patchwork kit removes much of the uncertainty from fabric selection while preserving the experience quilters love: transforming individual pieces of fabric into something much greater than the sum of its parts.

Patchwork projects can range from approachable designs for newer quilters to detailed quilts with many blocks, fabrics, and construction techniques.

Appliqué Quilt Kits

Appliqué allows fabric to become much more than squares and triangles.

Flowers, leaves, animals, letters, seasonal motifs, intricate curves, and whimsical characters can all become part of a quilt or sewing project through appliqué.

Explore Appliqué Kits for projects that combine beautiful fabrics with decorative shapes and designs.

Shabby Fabrics offers both traditional appliqué experiences and select projects where much of the preparation has already been done for you.

Precision Laser-Cut Appliqué Kits

This is one of the areas where Shabby Fabrics is especially distinctive.

Our Laser Cut Kits feature select projects with appliqué shapes precisely cut for the maker.

Traditional appliqué can require tracing and carefully cutting dozens or even hundreds of individual pieces. Precision laser cutting allows us to prepare intricate shapes, curves, points, letters, and small details with exceptional consistency.

That lets you skip much of the repetitive tracing and cutting and move more quickly into arranging, fusing, stitching, and watching the project come to life.

For makers who love the look of appliqué but would rather spend their creative time sewing than cutting every individual shape, laser-cut kits can completely change the experience.

Foundation Paper Piecing Kits

Foundation paper piecing is loved for the extraordinary precision it can achieve.

Crisp points, detailed geometric shapes, and designs that would be difficult to piece using traditional methods become much more approachable when fabric is sewn to a printed foundation.

Shabby Fabrics offers Foundation Paper Piecing kits with coordinated fabrics and project-specific components to help makers enjoy this precise technique without having to independently coordinate every fabric.

FPP can look complicated at first, but a thoughtfully designed project combined with clear instructions and educational support can make the technique surprisingly approachable.

Quilt As You Go Kits

Want to piece and quilt your project as you work?

Quilt As You Go Kits use a different approach from traditional quilt construction, allowing quilting to occur during the assembly process rather than waiting until the entire quilt top has been completed.

This method can be particularly appealing for makers who enjoy completing manageable sections as they go or who want to explore an alternative approach to quilt construction.

Table Runner Kits

A table runner is one of the most versatile quilting projects you can make.

Table Runner Kits can bring handmade color and personality to a dining table, kitchen island, coffee table, console, buffet, or other surface.

They're also ideal for seasonal decorating because you can rotate runners throughout the year without needing to create a full-size quilt for every holiday.

Table runners make excellent gifts, offer a relatively quick finish, and are a wonderful format for trying patchwork, appliqué, foundation paper piecing, or another new technique.

Table Topper Kits

Table Topper Kits provide another way to bring quilting into everyday home décor.

Their smaller scale makes them manageable, giftable, and easy to change with the seasons.

Use table toppers on dining tables, side tables, coffee tables, kitchen surfaces, or anywhere you'd like to add a handmade layer of color and texture.

Wall Hanging Kits

A quilt doesn't have to be made for a bed.

Wall Hanging Kits turn quilting and needlework into textile art.

Wall hangings are particularly well suited to detailed appliqué, foundation paper piecing, seasonal scenes, florals, inspirational designs, and projects you want to see and enjoy every day.

They're also easy to rotate throughout the year, making them one of our favorite formats for seasonal decorating.

Pillow & Pillowcase Kits

Pillows provide a quick way to bring handmade sewing into a room.

Pillow Kits can feature patchwork, appliqué, seasonal designs, decorative details, and many other techniques.

Because a pillow requires less space and time than a full quilt, it's also an excellent format for trying a new technique or creating a handmade gift.

Pillowcase kits offer another approachable sewing project that combines useful function with beautiful fabric.

Placemat, Napkin & Table Décor Kits

Handmade table décor lets you enjoy quilting and sewing in everyday life.

Browse Placemat Kits, Cloth Napkin Kits, table runners, table toppers, hot pads, and other kitchen and dining projects.

These projects are especially useful for seasonal decorating because an entire table can take on a different personality simply by changing the handmade textiles.

They're also practical gifts because they're designed to be both beautiful and used.

Bowl Cozy & Hot Pad Kits

Some of the most satisfying sewing projects are also some of the most useful.

Bowl Cozy Kits and Hot Pad Kits combine practical function with the pleasure of sewing.

Their smaller scale makes them approachable projects and useful handmade gifts for holidays, housewarmings, hostesses, friends, family, and anyone who appreciates something made by hand.

Tote & Bag Kits

Sewing something you can carry and use is uniquely satisfying.

Tote & Bag Kits let makers turn beautiful fabrics into practical projects for shopping, travel, sewing supplies, gifts, everyday use, and more.

Bag projects can also introduce different construction skills from traditional quilting, making them an enjoyable way to expand your sewing experience.

Pin Cushion Kits

Small projects can still have plenty of personality.

Pin Cushion Kits are quick, useful projects for your own sewing space and wonderful gifts for quilting and sewing friends.

Because they use relatively small amounts of fabric, pincushions are also an enjoyable place to feature favorite prints, appliqué, patchwork, embellishment, or hand stitching.

Cross Stitch Kits

Shabby Fabrics' kit selection extends beyond quilting.

Explore Cross Stitch Kits for projects that bring together the pattern and project materials needed to enjoy one of needlework's most beloved techniques.

Cross stitch is affordable, portable, relaxing, and wonderfully versatile. Finished projects can be framed, displayed on stands, incorporated into pillows and ornaments, or given as handmade gifts.

If you're new to the technique, Shabby Fabrics also offers educational resources to help you learn how to cross stitch, understand a pattern, choose supplies, and create neat, even stitches.

Hand Embroidery Kits

Hand Embroidery Kits offer another beautiful form of portable handwork.

Embroidery can add words, imagery, texture, outlines, decorative stitches, and intricate detail to fabric.

Because it requires relatively little equipment and can travel easily, hand embroidery is wonderful for evenings, road trips, retreats, vacations, or any time you'd like a creative project that doesn't require a sewing machine.

Machine Embroidery Kits

For makers who enjoy creating with an embroidery machine, Shabby Fabrics also offers machine embroidery kits and projects.

These kits bring together designs and coordinating materials for projects where the embroidery machine becomes an important part of the creative process.

Machine embroidery can add intricate decorative stitching and detailed imagery while opening the door to project styles very different from traditional piecing.

Punch Needle Kits

Punch needle brings texture and dimension to needlework.

These projects use repeated loops of thread or fiber to create richly textured designs and can provide a completely different creative experience from quilting, cross stitch, or traditional embroidery.

Punch needle kits are a wonderful choice for makers who enjoy handwork and want to explore another fiber-art technique.

Wool & Wool Felt Kits

Wool adds warmth, texture, and dimension that traditional quilting cotton cannot duplicate.

Explore Wool Kits and Wool Felt Kits for projects featuring wool appliqué, hand stitching, seasonal designs, decorative projects, and other tactile techniques.

Wool projects can be wonderfully portable and are especially enjoyable for makers who love hand stitching and dimensional texture.

Basket Kits

Fabric baskets combine sewing with practical organization.

Use handmade baskets for sewing supplies, gifts, seasonal décor, household organization, or simply as a beautiful way to contain everyday items.

They can also be wonderful gifts because they're useful before anything is even placed inside them.

Towel Kits

Towel Kits make it easy to add handmade details to one of the most practical items in the home.

Seasonal and decorative towels work beautifully in kitchens and bathrooms and can incorporate appliqué, fabric accents, embroidery, or other sewing techniques.

Their usefulness and relatively quick construction also make them popular handmade gifts.

Stocking Kits

Handmade Christmas stockings can become family keepsakes.

Stocking kits allow makers to create something personal that can return to the mantel year after year.

Whether traditional, whimsical, patchwork, appliqué, embroidered, or richly embellished, a handmade stocking can become part of the memories and traditions surrounding Christmas.

Monthly Series Kits

Some projects are designed to be enjoyed as a collection.

Monthly Series Kits allow makers to create coordinating projects across multiple months or seasons.

These series can be especially fun for seasonal home décor because each finished project becomes part of a larger collection.

For longer multi-month quilting experiences, also explore Shabby Fabrics Block of the Month Programs & Clubs.

Individual Blocks & Partial Kits

Sometimes you don't need an entire project.

Individual block and partial kit options can be useful when you're completing a series, replacing part of a project, adding a particular block, or purchasing only the portion you need.

Because contents vary substantially, always review the individual product description to understand exactly what is included.

Quilt Backings

Finishing a quilt requires thinking beyond the quilt top.

Coordinating backing options make it easier to complete a project without starting a separate search for fabric that works with the finished design.

When purchasing a kit, always check the individual product description to see whether backing is included, offered separately, or needs to be selected independently.

Small Project Kits

Want the satisfaction of finishing something without committing to a large quilt?

Small Project Kits bring together manageable projects that can be ideal for gifts, seasonal decorating, learning a new technique, or simply fitting more creativity into a busy schedule.

Small doesn't mean insignificant. Some of the projects we use and display most often are table runners, wall hangings, pillows, bags, hot pads, bowl cozies, towels, pincushions, and other smaller creations.

Quilt of Valor Kits

Shabby Fabrics also offers Quilt of Valor Kits for makers interested in creating quilts associated with the Quilts of Valor mission of honoring service members and veterans.

These projects combine the craft of quilting with the opportunity to create something meaningful in recognition of service.

What Type of Quilt Kit Should I Choose?

The best kit isn't necessarily the largest or most complicated one. It's the project that matches how you enjoy creating.

If you love traditional piecing, start with patchwork.

If you love decorative shapes and imagery, explore appliqué.

If you want intricate appliqué without spending hours tracing and cutting, look at precision laser-cut kits.

If sharp points and detailed geometry excite you, try foundation paper piecing.

If you want a faster finish, consider a table runner, wall hanging, pillow, placemat, hot pad, or another small project.

If you prefer handwork, explore cross stitch, hand embroidery, punch needle, or wool.

And if you already know the season or subject you want to make, browse Quilt Kits by Theme.

There isn't one right way to be creative—and that's exactly why Shabby Fabrics offers so many different types of kits.
