Make an Autumn or Halloween Flannel Rag Quilt

A rag quilt is a wonderful way to enjoy Pepper & Pumpkin’s cozy texture. The exposed seam allowances are clipped and washed to develop the soft fringe that gives rag quilts their distinctive finish.

Choose the Four-Patch Flannel Rag Quilt Pattern to arrange your plaids in four-patch blocks. For another look, explore the Half-Square Triangle Flannel Rag Quilt Pattern, or try the Easy as ABC and 123 Rag Quilt Pattern.

Choose fabrics with enough contrast to keep the block arrangement visible. Follow your selected pattern for fabric quantities, batting, cutting dimensions, seam allowances, and finishing instructions.

Helpful Templates and Snips for Rag Quilting

The Creative Grids Batting Buddy Template Set helps you prepare consistently sized pieces for compatible rag quilt projects. Use the templates alongside the pattern and video instructions to guide your cutting and construction.

For clipping the exposed seam allowances, we recommend Fiskars Easy Action Rag Quilt Snips — Gen 2. These snips are designed for the repeated clipping involved in rag quilt finishing. Keep your clips clear of the stitching so your seams remain secure.
